Shareware Version 2.0

For a printed copy of this documentation, type PRINT BOOTLOG.DOC
at a DOS prompt.
BOOTLOG is a utility program that records the date and time that a computer
system is booted or that certain programs are run. When BOOTLOG is
executed, the current system date and time are written to a file for later
review.
BOOTLOG may be utilized as a tool to track PC usage, spot and help pinpoint
unauthorized usage, and aid in the timing of PC functions. It has
considerable value as a troubleshooting tool, as well as a security aid.
You are authorized to evaluate the shareware version of BOOTLOG for a
period of 21 days. If you find it to be of value and wish to use it beyond
the 21-day evaluation period, you must use the registered version. See the
REGISTRATION section at the end of this document.
INSTALLATION
------------
The only file necessary is BOOTLOG.EXE. It may be copied to any directory;
however, it should be copied into a directory that is in your computer's
PATH.
SYNTAX
------
<drive><path>BOOTLOG <options>
OPTIONS:
/h HELP - display complete command syntax.
/f:[filespec] Write BOOTLOG information to file specified by [filespec].
Default is C:\BOOTLOG.TXT.
/d Display contents of BOOTLOG file.
/r Reset BOOTLOG file. Creates a new BOOTLOG file and
renames previous file to [filename.BAK].
/q **REGISTERED VERSION ONLY.** Operates in quiet mode.
Suppresses copyright screen and system beep; bypasses
two-second wait.
/hide **REGISTERED VERSION ONLY.** Makes the BOOTLOG file a
hidden file to avoid easy detection.

BOOTLOG USAGE
-------------
The standard usage for BOOTLOG is to place it in the computer's
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This will cause the date and time to be recorded each
time the computer is booted.
BOOTLOG may also be run from any other batch file, effectively recording
the date and time that any program or series of commands was executed.
The BOOTLOG command may also be entered manually at a DOS command prompt.
Each time BOOTLOG is executed, whether through AUTOEXEC.BAT, another batch
file, or the command line, it writes date and time information to an ASCII
text file. This file is normally called BOOTLOG.TXT and placed in the root
directory of the C: drive; the /f parameter allows a different path and
filename to be specified.
When BOOTLOG runs, the system beeps and a message similar to the following
is presented on the screen:
+----------------------------------------------------------+
BOOTLOG (c) 1993 Jeff Spotts/Pyramid Custom Systems
Unregistered shareware version 2.0
Registered version allows suppression of this message!
+----------------------------------------------------------+
BOOTLOG file name: C:\BOOTLOG.TXT
Updating BOOTLOG file at 1:23:30 PM on 4/11/93.
Two second wait...
+----------------------------------------------------------+
The registered version of BOOTLOG includes the /q (quiet) parameter, which
suppresses the BOOTLOG copyright message and the beep, and bypasses the
two-second wait. The registered version also includes the /hide
parameter, which makes the BOOTLOG file a hidden-attribute file. These
parameters effectively make the use of BOOTLOG invisible to the user.
The /d parameter will display the contents of the BOOTLOG file one
screenful at a time. The BOOTLOG file is an ASCII text file; its contents
may also be viewed using any text editor or word processor, as well as the
DOS TYPE command.
